Our Review

Editor's Rating
Editorial ReviewIn 2016 Mod-U-Kraf closed their Rocky Mount factory and there is speculation that Champion Homes may soon buy this factory. Mod-U-Kraf homes were above average modular homes and providers of commercial modular projects. They were a good option for mid range and upper scale home buyers since Mod-U-Kraf can build full custom homes that will match the quality and appearance of stick-built homes. This was a good option for modular home buyers in or near to Virginia.

Personal Reviews of Mod-U-Kraf Homes, Inc.

Charles Small from East Bend, NC
I wish they had not gone out of business. We bought one of these houses back in 1987. We loved it! Very high quality workmanship. Great insulation. Had very few plobrems from the house. Sold it about 18 years at a tidy profit because of the quality workmanship.

Tammy from Lynchburg, VA
Bought the "Washington" from Mod-u-Kraf in 1999. The house was fabulous and so were the contractors! We eventually moved away. We are planning on purchasing land and putting up another modular. Was so sad to hear the Mod-U-Kraf is no longer in business. Best wishes to all who worked there. You produced a quality product and should be proud of what you accomplished!

Wendy from Falling Waters, WV
I LOVE my Mod-u-Kraft home! Most people do not believe me when I tell them it arrived on 4 trucks. I am so sad to hear the company went under. I am having issues with the shingles falling off and cracking. Does anyone know what shingles were used in 2002? THANKS for your help!

Wendy from Falling Waters, WV
I had my home built in 2002 and have been very happy with it. It was built faster than any other home in my area. No one believes me that it is a modular home. I do have a problem with the shingles coming loose and do not know who to contact.

Andre' Levisy from Rocky Mount, Virginia
Mod-U-Craft Homes in Rocky Mount, Virginia makes a terrific home. I strongly recommend Mod-U-Craft as a modular home builder.

Denise from Hickory, NC
I am the second owner of a Mod-U-Kraft home. I bought my updated Cape Cod back in 2004. It was originally built in 1998. What I loved the most is the exceptional quality of this home! Even today..... You cannot tell that it is not s site built home! And everything is square!! This home is even more beautiful today as it was when first built in 1998! I really hate that the company is no longer in business after a very long time by successful run! I could never build a home to come close to the quality and styling of this one!!

We researched modular homes in 2010 and decided to go with Mod-U-Kraf. Our initial experience was very good. We liked what we saw during our factory tour. We chose a Liberty home style with some add-ons,a full basement, an on-demand water heater, ceiling fans in all areas, hardwood floors and a soapstone wood stove.... The initial process went well, however changes occurred during the final stages of work. Crews were not working on time, jobs were finished in a hasty manner, and our concerns were not getting much attention. The house was finished early fall of 2011. There is much about the house that I love, however there have been a number of issues.... Drains to take water away from the back of the house were not carried any distance from the house and water accumulated in wet weather, lights in bathroom ceiling fixtures keep burning out, emergency water cut off fixtures at the inside pump were installed incorrectly, the roof shingles are already coming off in high wind, and our gutters and downspouts came loose and have had to be reattached. Because our experience has included several disappointments with quality of work, I can only give this 3 stars. If more attention were paid to the finished quality and to customer satisfaction, I would give it 5 stars.

We purchased a large home from mod u kraf. We did our shopping and thought this company would be great. Instead the contractor they use was poor he let our house get wet and mild set in. Mod u Kraf and the contractor would not help to fix it. They do not stand by their word.

William and Sheri Yarber from Emory, VA
We purchased a cape cod style home from Mod-u-Kraft in 2012, through New Line Construction in Wytheville, Va. Although we did have a few issues with the laborer who completed our porch roof and other trimwork, the issues were addressed and resolved to our satisfaction. Joe and his dad at New Line are honest, hard working men and they truly do their best to ensure your complete satisfaction. We are 100% pleased with the quality of our home.It is constructed better than most site built homes, and we recommend this company with confidence.

eygene mattox from va.
We have ben in our home since 1985. Many dont think it is a modular. Could not be happier with the home or the company. Would recommend to anyone.

Tom Harris from Eden NC
Buying a modular home begins with investigating the manufacturer. Investigate thoroughly. The next key is the salesman. Investigate him or her in the same manner. After you have done your due dilligence it is time to order and this is where most problems occur. The sales person is not trained properly-doesn't know how to convey your requirements on the order form or doesn't know enough about construction to be advising you. Know the manufacturer's specs! And go over your order at the plant. I know what I'm talking about! I was a sales vp in the modular business for over 25 yrs. Also, Mod-U-Kraft is an excellent company, probably the best in the business! In my opinion, problems usually occur because of poorly trained builders and sales personel.I would think that Mod-U-Kraft is doing agood job where these two areas are concerned.

Paula from Virginia
I purchased my home in 1985 and still love it and I have received good compliments on it and now my son is looking to purchase one also. I have the same carpet and vinyl flooring and is still in good shape , very quality materials used in my home. I would recommend you to anyone.

we bought our house in nov of 2010 and had nothing but problems. i feel bad that the builder has the one year warrenty and has been fixing mod u kraf's mess ups i would never buy from them if i were you!

Andy from Md
Heard good things about them from a friend. I did a factory tour and they looked very good.

Coni from Clarksburg WV
I purchased my Kingstown home in 1980, I have been very pleased with the quality and workmanship of my home. People viewing our home are amazed that it is a two-story modular and that it was built in 1979. My only regret is that I didn't receive a copy of the blueprints. It was such a win that my sister purchased one in 1985. ***** From Happy Mountaineers from WV.

Melinda Vogt from Renick WV
Used one of Mod U Krafs "builders". Been in court for 3 years because he walked off job, house was damaged (living, dining, master bedroom ceilings soaked and falling down)and they "rebated" $20,280 to the builder, sounds like a kick back to me! Federal Court Case is scheduled. CROOKS stay away from them

MARK CARR from NC
WHAT WE LIKED THE MOST WAS THE NAME BRAND FLOORING ARMSTRONG.........BOTH THE VINYL & LAMINATE......WHY DO'NT YOU CARRY BRUCE OR ARMSTRONG HARDWOOD......THE ROOMS WERE LAYED OUT GREAT........WE ARE GOING TO BUILD/BUY A HOME IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS FOR A 2ND HOME.....AND YOU ARE IN THE TOP 5 OR SO........BUT YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON A FEW THINGS.....I & MY WIFE LOOKS VERY HARD AT THE RATING FROM THE CONSUMER REPORTS.....AND IT SEENS THAT YOU DO NOT ON SOME OF THE ITEMS THAT YOU ARE PUTTING IN YOUR HOMES......OVER ALL I WOULD GIVE YOU A 3 PLUS STAR......
