Editorial Review | Manis Homes are built to a higher specification and look to be above average modular homes. We were impressed with the few examples we found but their website is nothing special for consumers to enjoy. They are a smaller operation with many experienced staff members who have been involved with modular homes for many years. We feel very comfortable with Manis Custom Builders and think that modular home buyers should consider them and contact them for more detailed information. Despite not impressing our online mystery shopper experience, their real world customer service made up for thier lackluster website and their experienced building staff and high specifications make us rate them well. |

Personal Reviews of Manis Custom Builders

Manis asks for 90% up front for building and when they get it, you are all through with them. They do what they want and leave the rest. We paid for custom features they did not put in, they installed damaged goods, they refuse to come back and fix mistakes, and we are still missing parts for completion. They pretend to be a honest builder when clearly they are interested in only the almighty dollar. Would never recommend them.

Manis like all modular factories are set up to work through the dealer you purchase the home from. Here at Clayton Homes of Raleigh I have been selling and installing Manis Homes since 2004. I can say they are among the best built homes you can find. However, your experience could be frustrating if you do not pair their excellent home with an excellent dealer that truly cares about service after the sale. bought house in 2007. One year later roof leaked, told fix it yourself.Found and tarred many spots including one the size of a quarter where the dormer corner meets the roof. We still have leaks ! Can't find them. Now we are looking into a new roof. VERY upset with the company.

we were never offered any help with repairs when my husband wrote and called. told take care of it yourself, many time we were told this and we just gave up. our first new home buy and warranty was crap. why bother with a warranty if dont honor any of it. you get a better warranty on a car then you do these homes.yes we still have problems with the house purchased in 2007 and guess we will never get any results from the company!!!!

Nice house...from a distance...1320sq.ft...was supposed to be our first NEW home...our dream retirement home..Put up in May,2007..The roof leaked from day one..Manis said it's leaking from the nailholes THIER roofers made for the brackets to stand on.I was told;"we think they're ok,but you're gonna have to go up there and tar them every year,...tar dries out,ya know.."....Yeah,right,I'm a disabled veteran....2007 was a drought....after being in the house 18 months, rains came back,..so did all the leaks....We got the exact same answer from Manis..with an addition of being told to try to tighten up the mounting bolts on the dormers..which I did..Electrical problems were addressed from the day the house was set...Master bath fan blows circuit breaker after 4 minutes......all outside outlets don't get power..even after contractor replaced the GFI outlets....I was told; "thats because they're on the same circuit as the doorbell..."..which doesn't work...Also at 18 months, the heatpump went..out of warranty of course..Will never buy,or recomend a Manis home to anybody,at this point.I would welcome a Manis rep.to contact me to try to help fix the roof at least....

I Love our new house! My husband and I went through floor plans, tweeked some ideas and added more, I love my house!! If I were to do it again, I'd choose a Manis custom built home!!

We purchased my home direct from Manis in 2003, when delivered it was set up by an outstanding group of workmen, they were dedicated to their job and the finished product showed their skills.
Ther were some minor repairs that had to be made, but every call resulted in quick action to correct the problem.
Last year we were hit by a tornado, it took a 64' x 8' front porch and carried it to a field 600' behind the house. We had to have a structular engineer inspect the house before repairs could begin.
It was still solid on its foundation after a direct hit, the quality of a Manis Home came through.
If we ever move and build again, no question it will be Manis built.

I bought my house in 2007 and I have cracked walls. I have enjoyed my home and it is beautiful but poor craftsmanship.

The quality of this home is terrible. We bought the home 6 years ago and the walls are still cracking. The kitchen cabinets were installed crooked. I have had numerous problems too many to list here. I would never purchase a home from Mantis. I was promised a qualty home froma controlled enviroment. I would encourange a Mantis rep to visit my home almost six years later and give me their profesional opinion. Thanks

We had our house in 2008 before the market went up and before our yrs.warrent went out I told everyone from HHQ in greenville to the people in Maxton the my shower was leaking the came by put caulking down t me to let it dry for 24hrs, and if it leaked again that the would come back. That was 6mos ago.Now the lates is now that my warrent has gone out my shower still leakes and the real kicker is that Manis say that thay will fix it at my expenst. So remember when we go on the lots to look at those nice homes remember thair is know runing water so you can not check for leaks.

Home Headquarters in Wilmington NC answered our call when we had looked at modular homes for approx. a year. David and Butch were awesome during the whole process. I am proud to be a HomeHeadquaters(Manis) homeowner. I thank God for having such a beautiful home and making a lifelong dream come true.

I have to say my experience with Home Headquarters was much better than the Mrs. had. I am curious as to the other side of the story. As for me, I had purchased a directly from Home Headquarters in Wilmington, NC. Everyone from the salesman to the contractors were very nice people. Sure I had some issues, but just because it's new doesn't mean it's perfect. The great thing is Home Headquarters willingness to correct the problems that we had. They wanted to make sure we were happy and they did. I recommend them to any and everyone that wants to buy a modular home.

I was told by the 2nd owner it was built in 2005 but discover after purchase that it was built in 2003 as a model. We have a drought and was unable to inspect the roof. The sellers failed to tell us about the leak. Since our Purchase in October 2007 when it rained we discovered 11 areas that leak. This information was not disclosed to us at sale. Foolishly we thought that Home HeadQuartes (Manis retailer) would stand behind their work because the roof is major. They should have called back the subcontractor to repair the poor job. It is obvious that the roofers had set the air gun to high and blew out pieces of the cheap lumber use for sheathing.
I went under the house because it was very cool in the house. I had to clean up 6 bags of dirt before I could move in there. Than I discovered that the HVAC person never put a filter in the unit which is under the house. Don't ask me why it is there and not in the utility room? The electric socket out back is a 120 but only in the right socket not both sockets, so I now have a burned up motor in my hot tub and need an electrician. I was happy to buy a Manis because I heard they where the best. I guess in this case they should have never sold the model.Under my house insulating where the sill board sits on the block I realized that no inspector would have pass this house if the right Manis or Home Headquarters supervisor would have been at the site. The home has rain gutters in the front but not the back. In general we like the home but can't afford the expense of fixing items that are major and should not need repair in just 4 years. I had hoped Home HeadQuarters or Manis would have stepped up to the plate and fixed the roof but they told us there was no guarantee. I know as a fact that the owner before me complained as did the original owner. Shame on Manis!

These guys don't have a competor that even comes close to the high standards and affordable prices that they offer.
