|Editorial Review||General Housing is a good provider of modular homes. Their homes are well built and include a wide range of options including some nice upscale options. Their homes are a good value for entry level home buyers and also a good option for mid range clients. Personal Reviews of General Housing Corporation
Michael Hoffman from Charlevoix, MI
I met the president of GHC (John Pollion) at an outdoor living show in March 2018. They gave me the contact information for their builder in Charlevoix county where our vacant property was. I contacted the builder (Paul Fisher from North Country Homes) and we met with him in his office a week later. Paul gave me a ballpark price to build the home from a design we already had. Over the next 4 months Paul would not return my emails and phone messages. I called GHC and spoke to John Pollion 3 months into the ordeal and asked him if they had another builder I could work with but John assured me this was out of character for Paul Fisher. Only then did Paul respond to my previous email and his response was open ended. He would never answer my questions or give me an idea when he would have firm pricing or when he could start the project. After another 6 weeks of Paul not answering my emails or phone messages I called GHC again asking if they had another builder I could work with. The following day I received an email from Paul with another unofficial cost estimate of our project that was $120,000 higher than the previous estimate. 4.5 months and I still have no estimate that I can use to get financing. I responded to Paul asking a number of questions. Of course Paul did not respond or answer any of my questions even though he invited questions in his email. I have no idea of the quality of the homes because I couldn't progress my project with GHC or North Country Homes. They both strung me along for almost 5 months and in effect lied to me that they were interested and working on my project. I would not have even given GHC one star but that is not an option. In my opinion they were completely unprofessional. If they didn't want to or couldn't do my project they could have told me much earlier. I have resolved that I would never work with either GHC or North Country Homes. If this is how you are treated before the project even starts how are you going to be treated once it starts.

Ive built 2 houses myself AND ONLY HAD PROBLEMS PASSING INSPECTIONS CAUSE I WAS A HOMEOWNER WITHOUT A LICENSE TO BUILD AND COUNTY ROAD MY BUTT ON BOTH HOUSES, FOUGHT MY REJECTIONS AND WAS PASSED FOR THE MOST. Getting older and thought id have a professional lisenced builder do this for me. WORSt EXPERIANCE I HAVE EVER HAD !!!!!!! , house missing shingle that was never even nailed on, loose plumming at tubs and showers, sliding doors would close or were warped, bath fan had no exhaust hooked up to outside or not even there, doors were outta line and hard to shut etc etc etc, was told sorta hard to shut doors was accectable tolerance by GHC standards. (WHAT!) Company very slow to respond or even call back. NOW since last summer of 2017 the siding is falling off and popping loose and as summer of 2018 the problem was a warranty issue from siding manufacture and had to be submitted to make a claim, I told them it was a improper installation but im not a builder right? manufacture letter stated nailed wrong, improper overlap, nailed to tight, improper clearance. SO according to siding manufactuer all siding needs to be replaced and not reused. I could leave more of what IVE fixed. THIS IS NOT COMPANY BASHING, THIS IS MY HONEST EXPERIANCE AND ONLY GAVE IT 1 STAR CAUSE I HAD TO. Thats just with GHC The builder has a whole new lists of problems, some not resolved yet either. I paid a premium to have someone else make my dream retirement home. WILL YOU?

Had a cap Cod built 20 years a go and still live in the home and we love it. getting ready to sell and we are going to us General housing again.
Paul from Midland, MI
The company was responsive to problems in the short period after the house was erected on Site and was able to get the not responsive builder moving on solutions. now about 7 years out the drywall tape is pulling off where two of the units are fastened together. I cannot seem to get response from either GHC or the builder to assess the problem
Annette from Lapeer, Michigan
Nice floor plans, company will work with the customer to get what the customer wants. Beautifully built homes with better than average customization options.
